Tasty Tuesday - Whole Wheat Honey Bread

This recipe is for a bread machine. I have already told you about how much I LOVE my bread machine, so if you don't have one I think it's definitely worth asking for one for your birthday or next Christmas. Homemade bread seriously intimidates me... but with a bread machine you are instantly Martha Stewart without so much as lifting a finger. I'm sure you can make this recipe without a bread machine, but don't ask me how.

This is my favorite homemade bread recipe. It's full of flavor and not dry like whole wheat bread can sometimes get. As long as I don't let the yeast touch the salt or the H2O it never fails. Hope you get a chance to try it!

Whole Wheat Honey Bread

1 1/8 c. water
3 c. whole wheat flour
1 1/2 t. salt
1/3 c. honey
1 T. dry milk powder
1 1/2 T. shortening
1 1/2 t. active dry yeast

Place ingredients in bread machine pan in order suggested by manufacturer. Select Whole Wheat setting and light crust. Press start.

Three to four hours later you'll have an amazing yummy loaf of homemade bread. Could that get any easier?

As a side note, shortening is not exactly great for you. Ok for a pie every once in awhile, but not exactly something you want to eat every day. You could probably substitute the shortening for canola oil (although I haven't tried this), or I use shortening made from palm oil that is trans-fat free and soy free.
