Hilly Hundred

Last weekend, Justin flew to Minnesota for a fun weekend at a friend's wedding. Bug and I decided not to make the whirlwind trip, so instead we spent the weekend with my Mom and traveled down to McCormick's Creek State Park on Saturday to watch my Dad and brother in the Hilly Hundred.

FYI, that is a 100 mile bike race. Up and down hills. Lots of steep, steep hills.

It was a little chilly, but we pic-nicked while we waited for them to arrive at the first day's finish line... and Bug did a little cruising herself.

When they finally showed up, here's my goofy brother lugging his giant stereo system. The thing weighs 129 pounds!! (Your average road bike might weight about 29 pounds.) He said he got lots of people cheering him on and thanking him for the music. Just a few nay-sayers. He even got a write-up in the Herald Times:

"Shane of Indianapolis got a lot of smiles. He rigged a car stereo and a pair of speakers to fit in a wooden box mounted to the back of his bike to play his favorite tunes. “It was almost all positive comments. I had one or two people who weren’t impressed,” he said. "

My Dad and brother have been doing this race for the last eight years. It makes me tired just thinking about it. But, good for you!

Future bicycle enthusiast?

Shane should win a special award for not only finishing, but for also lugging around the extra 100 lbs!
