Is that a Watermelon in your flower bed or are you just happy to see me?

My yard doesn't get a lot of full sun. I struggle every season because I want every beautiful flowering plant, but I know I don't have enough sunny places to plant them all. And this year, it's even worse because I really wanted to plant a garden.

I had dreams of this beautiful little plot of soil in my backyard with squash, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumbers, maybe a few sunflowers, and every herb I could dream up. But then spring came, and reality set in... 1) I kill just about everything I attempt to grow. 2) my entire backyard is shaded, as well as most of the front and sides.

I was very optimistic though. I even started some seeds in a little plastic greenhouse in the kitchen. Of course, I killed all but one of those.

Needless to say, I have not yet given up. I will grow my own vegetables this year! I will have something to eat that I grew myself!

So I did what I had to do. I planted my veggies in the front flower beds. Not, like, smack in the front. But on the side/corner, in the sunniest place I could find. And I put a tomato in a pot. And a small little herb garden in the tiniest patch of ground beside our side steps.

So yes, that is a Watermelon in my flowerbeds, Justin. Deal with it. :) My patio tomato.

Lettuce.

Peppers.

Squash.

Honeysuckle. Not going to eat this... just wanted proof that something I planted last year did manage to survive. Even though, at the end of last summer it was a little moldy and close to death. Look how pretty it is now!

Basil works well in shade too, smells good, and tastes great with tomatoes, fresh mozzerella, and balsamic vinaigrette! (this is the only thing I got to grow for me on my shady porch haha :)
