Last Wednesday we tried out Lily's Bumbo seat for the first time. She's getting to be a big strong girl and can hold her head up in it for a few minutes...
...and a few minutes later she looks more like this. But everyday she lasts a little longer. :)
Of course, the very next day there was stuff all over the news about Bumbo seats being dangerous. Here's what I've found out: yes, if you leave your child unattended on a high surface the Bumbo can be dangerous, but if you supervise your baby and don't use the chair in inappropriate places, the actual chair itself is not dangerous. I'm sorry, I have to say it... duh.
So they took all the Bumbo seats in the stores off the shelf and are putting new warning labels on the packaging - it seems a little like putting "hot" on the coffee cups, but I guess better safe than sorry.

You have a good point, but for a while the Bumbo website reportedly featured promotional images showing people using the seat on tables, countertops, etc. Even with a parent by the child's side, this is not safe, and Bumbo did not appear to be considering this in how it promoted a wholly new product to eager parents. Think of the new warning as an attempt to make up for misleading and dangerous advertising, and you might see a better case for the educational campaign.
oh yes, and these pictures crack me up:)
