What a Week!

Well, last week was quite a week! For those of you not in Indiana, we got some snow last week. We got more snow than I can remember getting in a very long time. Enough snow that Justin and I both stayed home from work Tuesday and Wednesday. We would have gone to work on Wednesday, but our street was still covered in snow and we couldn't get the cars out. To make the week of snow even more fun, on Monday one of the tires on my car was really really low and wouldn't hold air. I managed to get the car home, just before the snow started that night. So on Tuesday morning at 5:30am, with six inches of snow on the ground, Justin began attempting to change my flat tire... only to find that there are locking lug-nuts on Jettas and our car didn't seem to have the "lock" needed to get the tire off.

Needless to say, we were snowed in and we weren't going any where on Tuesday. And we didn't make it far on Wednesday... fast forward to Friday night when we finally managed to get enough air in my tire (and shove it out of the snow bank it was in) to drive it over to Pep Boys. Pep Boys explained to us that they couldn't get the stinking tire of the car either, and we were going to have to go to the dealership to get the "lock." So we gave up on the car Friday night and decided we'd just go to the dealership on Saturday morning.

Saturday morning we drove up to the North side (to the apparently only Volkswagon dealership on earth) and explained to the guy at parts and service that we needed this special tool. He explained to us that we were going to have to bring the Jetta up to the North side in order to get it fitted for the lock, and that they don't carry those in stock, so he would probably have to order it. At this point, we were both feeling really frustrated. I mean, how many people and days should it take to changed a silly flat tire?!!!! In fact, I was so frustrated that I broke down in tears (but, remember, I have a good excuse).

Anyhoo, things went up from there when they were looking pretty bleak. We drove back to the East side and got the car tire filled up, drove it to the North side to the dealership where they just happened to have a lock in stock! and we were able to then take the car back to the East side where we just put four new tires on the darn thing to hopefully avoid this situation again in the near future.

And the moral of this story is... for your own sanity, if you have a Volkswagon, go out and look for the tool in your spare kit that removes your locking lug-nuts, and make sure it's there! Thanks, needed to get that off my chest!
